Apple Event Happening Today! 10AM PST
January 27, 2010 | In: Random
Apple’s much anticipated event announcement will be happening today at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco CA. It is expected that they will unveil a new device, possibly a tablet style computing device among other things.
There has been much speculation as to what this new mystery device actually is and what it does.
Jason Calacanis writes: For background: apple asked me to do press tomorrow on CNBC, CNN, etc. As a pundit they gave me tablet 10 days ago. Three people dropped it off!
“The apple tablet is running an iphone os flavor with ability to have multiple apps running at same time (ie pandora, browser.
I can tell you the battery life is great in ebook reading mode but not great when on wifi or playing games. 2-3hrs. There are two cameras: one in front and one in back (or it may be one with some double lens) so you record yourself and in front of you.
Apple Tablet has thumb-pads on each side for mouse gestures, it also reads fingerprints for security. Up to 5 profiles per family. Apple tablet is OLED and the back has solar pad for recharging, but it really doesn’t work quickly. More a gimmick. Verizon+att, wifi yes!
Apple tablet’s 2 cameras is sick feature for video conferencing: u shoot what’s in front of you + yourself. Augmented video conferencing!
Apple tablet games are sick. Basically Nintendo wii-level innovation. Custom farmville app is insane. Mark Pincus is demoing with steve tmmr.
Now whether not any of this is true, Jason really needs a tutor or at least a spell checker. We cant really know what its going to look like for sure until it’s unveiled. But the most convincing picture (turned out to be true) to date has to have been posted this morning. But I’m not going to show that. Instead check out the nice render of what a tablet should look like.
UPDATE: And guess what? This prediction tuned out mostly true.
But no matter what Apple announces today, you can find it here. Along with our commentary and thoughts. One question I get a lot is, how much is this thing going to cost?
Apple Pricing Equation
Take whatever in your mind is a fair price of what a product should really be worth. Not what you want it to cost, or what you wish it would cost. But realistically what its really worth to the consumer. Take that figure, add 25% on top of that. And finally add 15% Apple tax and then you have a realistic price of almost any Apple product produced in the last 5 years. That’s the Apple experience.
Apple is becoming more competitive in its retail pricing as technologies become less expensive. But it still has a ways to go to compete in the PC market. Some people say that Apple will never truly compete directly in the PC market. I would tend to agree.
So whatever Apple’s next big thing is today, it had better be bigger than what was released at their last event.
So if you want the lowdown Phat1 (among many other blog sites) will be updating the story as it unfolds.
And unfold it did.
UPDATE: Well well. Jason thought he was being clever. Says it was only a joke and to “come on“. No, I don’t think anyone is going to come on. The joke that you played was quite out of character for you. His “joke” just happened to coincide with the morning of Apple’s announcement. What a way to become a thunder-stealer. The morning of the announcement? Seriously? To time his “joke” the same morning of the announcement that Apple has been working on for the last several years is very bad timing.
Reactions:
Mike Arrrington — I understand a joke, but if you say “I can not reveal anymore because of a NDA from Steve Jobs” is that a joke? Is that saying that I have nothing to do with the tech industry and I do not have enough credibility to get a a beta version of a product? I am sorry for believing that. I guess he does not have any credibility. Is that true?
