Alex Albrecht Leaks More Apple Tablet Rumors
December 2, 2009 | In: Apple
Diggnation co-host Alex Albrecht almost let the proverbial cat out of the bag in reference to the rumored Apple tablet on one of Revision3′s most popular online video shows Diggnation. During the show’s 231st episode co-host Kevin Rose pointed to Albrecht and said “You know something, you just heard something”. To which Rose also added “come on, you know something. I have always given up rumors on this show” After the plead from Rose and a short exchange, Albrecht replies “F you”.

Albrecht finally succumbs “I will give you one little slice”. “I was shocked at how cheap the price point is going to be”. Rose asks “hmmm, $199?”. At this point in the exchange it was obvious Albrecht was surprised that Rose answered correctly by nodding ever so slightly and cracking a boyish smile.
Then Rose asked “How do you know what Apple’s…, you don’t know anything”. “You’re just making shit up”. To which Albrecht concluded “Maybe I am, maybe I aint”.
The hotly rumored tablet from Apple has caused many with the tech industry to speculate as to when (if ever) it will see the light of day. I think we can all conclude that the Tablet does indeed exist. But the price point from an earlier story we posted told a completely different tale. It suggests a price almost 5 times that amount. Which would seem more likely given the fact that any Apple product commands a higher price than the competition. But in the case of the iphone, there is no current competition largely due to the fact of Apple’s app store.
This also isn’t Rose’s first time at Apple rumor mongering himself. Although he was been dead wrong more often than not. The excerpts below are from a Gizmodo article published late in 2006.
- Coming in January to all providers (INCORRECT, it was a AT&T exclusive debut, and still is today)
- 2 batteries (1 MP3, 1 Phone) (INCORRECT, there is one battery that is NOT user replaceable)
- 2 capacities (4GB & 8GB) (CORRECT)
- Prices will run $249 & $449 (INCORRECT, prices were $499 and $599 with a 2 year contract)
- Flash memory (surprise)
- Slide out keyboard (INCORRECT)
- Touchscreen (on outside) (INCORRECT, suggested it had two displays)
- “Cool” OS (Maybe true but subjective)
So out of the 6 possible truths that Rose leaked, 5 were totally wrong.
In another iphone rumor tale from March 2008 that was also published on Gizmodo, Rose predicted that the soon to be released iphone 3G “will have a camera on the front for video-conferencing with other 3G iPhone and Macintosh iChat users”. (WRONG AGAIN)
Mr. Rose has been in the rumor game for a number of years. He is just not very good at it. Common sense would tell most people, if you could be (and more than likely will) be wrong, whats the point? But if looking like an uninformed dumbass is your thing…
To be continued in late 2010.
